What we do
One vehicle brings the load and lifts it
Everything on this page has the same thing in common. The lift travels on the same lorry as the load, so you are booking one vehicle and one driver rather than a delivery and then a lift to unload it. Nothing else has to meet us on site, and there is nobody else to wait for.
The list below is grouped the way people ask for this work. Some know what they are moving, so start with the thing itself. Some already know the vehicle they want, a flatbed, an artic or a wagon and drag, so start there. Some jobs are really about the lift rather than the load. And for some the lift is almost incidental and the point is getting the thing from one end of the country to the other, which is the haulage group.
If none of that matches what you have got, do not spend time deciding. Email us, describe the item and the access, and we will tell you which of these it is.
These are our HIAB transport services, and they run out of the yard in Miles Platting across Greater Manchester, the North West and the rest of the country. If you typed HIAB hire near me or HIAB service near me into a search box and ended up here, the answer is the same whichever of these pages you landed on: one lorry, one driver, the load and the lift together.
Start with the load

Start with the lorry
The vehicle you need
-
Our main service in plain terms: a HIAB crane and a trained driver, hired by the day.
-
An articulated HIAB for long or heavy loads that will not sit on a rigid lorry.
-
A rigid HIAB and trailer, so two loads travel together or split up for tight sites.
-
A flat lorry with the lift on the back, for loading and unloading without a forklift.
-
For tracked and wheeled plant that is too tall or too heavy to go on a flatbed.
-
Any of these vehicles with our own trained driver, who does the lift as well as the drive.
When the lift is the job
Lifts that need planning
-
We plan the lift and take responsibility for the method statement and the risk assessment.
-
For loads that have to travel over a fence, a hedge or a wall.
-
Tight access, restricted streets and one off items where the lorry position decides the job.
When the journey is the job
Getting it there, not just lifting it
-
Your load carried on our own lorry and lifted off by the same vehicle, quoted as one job.
-
Manchester based, working across England, Scotland and Wales, planned as one job end to end.
Also worth knowing
-
CCTV secured space in our Manchester yard for units and goods between jobs.
-
What actually moves the price: the vehicle, the access, the time on site and the distance.
-
A plain explanation of a lorry mounted crane, and when it beats arranging a lift separately.
-
One item rather than a full load, when a single pod, machine or pallet needs moving.
-
For builders, merchants and contractors who book with us regularly.
Ask us
Not sure which one you need
Plenty of callers do not know what to call the job, and it does not matter. Tell us what the item is, roughly how big it is, where it is now and where it has to end up. Then tell us about the access at both ends, the gate, the slope, the parked cars, the cable overhead.
That is usually enough for us to say which vehicle suits it, whether it is a straightforward delivery or a lift that needs planning, and what it is likely to cost. If it is work you do often we can set you up with a trade account.
Common questions
HIAB services, answered
Do you do all of this with your own vehicles?
Yes. The lorries are ours, the trailers are ours and the drivers are on our own books, ALLMI and CPCS trained.
Can you do more than one of these on the same job?
Usually, and it is often cheaper that way. A lorry that is already on your site can drop a cabin, shift a container across the yard and take a machine away on the same visit. Tell us everything you want moving and we will work out how much of it fits into one day.
What is the difference between a HIAB and hiring a lift separately?
With a HIAB the lift is bolted to the lorry that brought the load, so one vehicle and one driver turn up and the job is done. Hiring lifting equipment separately means two arrivals to coordinate, two sets of costs, and a delay if one of them is late.
Do you cover the whole country?
We are based in Miles Platting in Manchester and most of our work is Greater Manchester and the North West. But we run England, Scotland and Wales as well, and a load going to the far end of the country is the same job with more motorway in the middle.
How quickly can you come out?
Local work is often the same day or the next day if we have a vehicle free. Anything that needs a long reach, a permit or a road closure needs more notice. Email us with the date you want and we will be straight with you about what is realistic.
Can you work overnight or on a Sunday?
Yes, if it is booked in advance. Our normal hours are Monday to Friday from six in the morning until six, and Saturday until half twelve. Overnight and Sunday work is arranged ahead of time, so tell us the window you need when you enquire.
What do you need from us before you can quote?
What the item is, where it is now, where it is going, and what the access is like at both ends. Access is the thing that changes the price most often, so mention the narrow gate, the parked cars or the overhead cable even if you think it is obvious.
