The driver always comes with the lorry
When you book a lorry from us, one of our own drivers brings it to you, works the lift and takes it away again. The vehicle, the lifting equipment and the person trained to use it all come together in one booking.
Working a lorry mounted crane properly is a trade, and most of the skill is in the bit that looks easy: picking where the lorry stands, reading the ground under the outriggers, rigging the load so it sits level and knowing when to stop. Our men are ALLMI and CPCS trained and they work these vehicles every day.
It also makes the booking simpler at your end. One enquiry gets you the transport, the lifting equipment and the person qualified to use it, and the responsibility for the lift stays with us rather than landing on one of your own staff.

Working alongside your own crew
Plenty of our work is for contractors who have their own men on site already. That is fine. Our driver takes the lift and your crew take everything either side of it, and the two fit together easily once everybody knows who is doing what. If your site has an induction, a permit system or its own rules about who may sling a load, tell us when you book and we will work to it.
If the lift is the part you would rather hand over completely, including the planning and the paperwork, that is a contract lift, and it is a different arrangement. There is a page on it, or you can just say so in your email.

Does the driver come with the lorry?
Yes, every time. One of our own trained drivers brings the lorry to you and stays with it for the whole job, so there is no driver to find and nobody on your side has to work the controls.
Why does the driver come with the lorry?
Because the lifting is the skilled part, and it is the part that goes wrong. Our drivers are ALLMI and CPCS trained, they know our vehicles, and when they are on the controls the responsibility for the lift sits with us. That is the arrangement we are set up for and the one our insurance covers.
Does the driver do the lifting as well as the driving?
Yes. Same man, both jobs. He drives it to you, works the HIAB, rigs and slings the load, sets it down and makes it safe, then drives away. On a bigger lift we send a second man with him.
Do I need to provide a banksman or a slinger?
Usually not. On most jobs the driver manages the lift on his own. Where the drop is out of his sight, or the site rules insist on it, we bring a second man rather than asking you to stand in. Tell us when you book if your site has its own requirement.
What do your drivers hold?
ALLMI and CPCS training, and we are FORS Bronze and FTA members. Sites that want to see cards and paperwork before a vehicle comes through the gate can have it in advance. Just ask when you book.
How is the time charged?
The driver and the lorry are hired as one, on a job rate, a half day rate or a day rate depending on what the job needs. Email us with what you have got and where it is going and we will tell you which way round works out better for you.
