Half an hour up the M61, and two very different sorts of job
Bolton is one of the closest boroughs to us. We are based at Miles Platting in Manchester, not in Bolton, and it is about half an hour from the yard up the M61 on a normal morning. That makes same day work realistic if you get in touch early, and it means we get up there most weeks.
The work divides fairly neatly. In the town centre, Farnworth, Halliwell and Little Lever, it is restricted streets and parked cars. Terraced rows, back entries, older industrial buildings squeezed between houses, and a gateway that was sized for something narrower than a modern lorry. The lift itself is rarely the problem. Finding somewhere the lorry can legally and safely stand, with the outriggers down on something solid, is the problem.
Then there are the estate units out towards Horwich, Middlebrook, Westhoughton and Blackrod. Level ground, room to work, loading doors that make sense. Those are usually straightforward and quick, and they are where most of the plant, steel and palletised work goes.

How quickly can you get to Bolton?
About half an hour from the yard outside the rush hour, straight up the M61 and off at one of the Bolton junctions. Farnworth and Little Lever are quicker still. If you get in touch first thing we can often be with you the same morning.
Do you charge extra for travelling from Manchester?
No. Bolton is close enough that the journey is part of the job rather than an add on. What moves the price is which lorry you need, how long we are on site and how simple it is to get the vehicle into position.
Our street is narrow and always full of parked cars. Can you still work?
Often, yes, but it is the thing to tell us when you email. The lorry needs enough room to stop and put its legs down, and that is usually wider than people expect. A Saturday morning slot, or a word with the neighbours about moving two cars, solves most of it.
Can you lift over a wall or a building?
That is one of the main reasons people get in touch. The HIAB reaches out and over from wherever the lorry is standing, so a back garden behind a terrace or a yard behind a wall is reachable without anything having to come through the house. Send a photograph of the front if you can.
Do you work Saturday mornings?
Yes, until half past twelve. For Bolton town centre and the older residential streets it is often the better option, because there is less traffic and more room on the kerb than there would be midweek.
