Who turns up, and what they are responsible for
When you get in touch, you deal with somebody who knows where the lorries are and what is already booked in. That matters more than it sounds, because half of quoting this work is knowing whether the right vehicle is free on the morning you need it, and the other half is asking you the questions that decide which vehicle the right one is.
The lorry that arrives is ours and the driver is ours. He is trained through ALLMI for lorry mounted crane work and holds a CPCS card for site work.
Every lift is planned before the lorry leaves the yard. The item, the ground and the access are all covered when you book, so the right vehicle is sent and the driver arrives knowing exactly what the job is. On site he sets the lorry in position, puts the outriggers on mats where the surface needs them, rigs the load and carries out the lift safely.
How we work
What happens when you get in touch
- We ask what the item is, where it is now, where it is going and what the access is like at both ends
- We tell you which vehicle suits it, and why the obvious one sometimes does not
- The lift is planned at booking, so the right lorry is sent first time
- Every hire is operated. The lorry always comes with our driver
- On site the driver sets the vehicle up exactly as planned before anything is rigged
- Contract lifts come with a method statement and a risk assessment written for that job
- If the job needs a second vehicle or a banksman, you hear it at quote stage, not on the day
- Loads and units can sit in our CCTV secured yard at Miles Platting between jobs
What we take on
Containers, portable cabins and modular units, plant and machinery, steel, precast concrete, tanks, pods, signage and the awkward one off lifts. Tight streets, mill yards, sloping ground and jobs where the lorry has to be in exactly the right spot before anything moves. That is our day to day work, across Greater Manchester, the North West, and England, Scotland and Wales.
We also sell containers and portable cabins, so the unit and the lorry that delivers it can both come from us.

What the cards and memberships mean for you

ALLMI trained drivers
ALLMI is the trade association for lorry mounted crane work, and its training is about the lift rather than the driving. Slinging, load stability, siting the outriggers, working near people. In practice it means the man on the controls has been assessed on this kind of machine, not simply licensed to drive the lorry it sits on.

CPCS cards
CPCS is the card scheme most main contractors ask to see at the gate before anyone is allowed on site. In practice it means our driver gets through your induction and gets on with the job, instead of being turned back at the barrier and you losing the slot you booked the delivery into.

FORS Bronze
FORS Bronze is an audited standard covering how the fleet is maintained, how drivers are licensed, how hours are managed and how safety is handled. In practice it is the evidence a lot of councils, principal contractors and utilities want before a lorry is allowed near their site, and we can produce it when you are asked for it.

FTA membership
We are an FTA member, which keeps us current on the compliance side of running lorries: drivers hours, loading and securing rules, and the changes that come in every year. In practice it means our paperwork stands up when somebody checks it, which is usually the moment it matters most.

Common questions
What people ask before they book
Are your drivers employed by you?
Yes. The lorries are ours and the drivers are on our own books. They are ALLMI and CPCS trained, and the same faces go out week after week, so the man working the HIAB on your site has done the job before. Everything we do is operated hire, which means the lorry always arrives with our driver on it.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry the cover this kind of transport and lifting work requires, and we will send the certificates through on request. Plenty of main contractors ask for them before the lorry is allowed on site, so it is a routine request and we are used to it.
How far do you travel?
Greater Manchester and the North West every day, and beyond that England, Scotland and Wales. A load going from a Manchester yard to the other end of the country is the same job with more motorway in the middle, so distance on its own is rarely the problem. Access at either end is what changes the answer.
