Preston is a junction town in the most practical sense. The M61 comes up from Manchester and runs straight into the M6, and everything heading north has to pass through. For us that makes Preston one of the easiest places in Lancashire to serve. It sits on the line of almost every run we make towards Lancaster, Cumbria or Scotland, so a collection or a delivery here often fits into a day that was already going that way.
The work splits between the old and the new. Around the docklands at Riversway the regeneration has been going on for years, and that brings deliveries into part built streets, plant on and off sites, and units lifted into position between finished buildings. Then there are the distribution parks off junction 31 and along the Preston East and Walton Summit corridors, where the yards are wide, the loads are bigger and the day is usually governed by a gate booking rather than by the lift.
Out from the city it is the Lancashire towns. We are based in Miles Platting in Manchester and we travel out. There is no depot of ours in Preston and we would not pretend otherwise. How long does it take you to reach Preston?
An hour or so from our Manchester yard, up the M61 and onto the M6. Chorley and Bamber Bridge are nearer, Longridge and the villages north of the city a little further. It is a reliable run outside the rush, which is why we tend to set off early and get a full day of Preston work in rather than arriving mid morning.
Do you charge extra for coming up from Manchester?
Not as a separate travel charge. The journey sits inside the price along with the vehicle and the time on site. Preston is also directly on the line of every job we run further north, so a collection here often joins a run already going that way. Mention where your load is heading and we will look at how it fits.
Can you fit us in the same week?
Usually, and often sooner. The honest answer depends on what the job needs. A straightforward delivery or a container move is easy to slot in. Something that needs a particular vehicle, a road closure or a permit needs more notice. Email us and we will tell you the first day we could actually do it rather than the first day that sounds good.
Do you work the distribution parks off junction 31?
Yes, that corridor is regular work for us. Containers, plant, palletised loads and industrial equipment in and out of the estates around Samlesbury, Walton Summit and Cuerden. Tell us which gate to use and whether there is a booking in system, because on the bigger parks that decides the timing.
Can you do a Saturday morning?
Yes, we work Saturdays to half twelve. On a Preston job that means leaving the yard early, so it is best arranged in the week rather than on the Friday afternoon. It suits work where a yard or a car park has to be clear before anyone can move.
Do you go further north than Preston?
