Big, round, and nowhere obvious to put a sling
A tank is one of the more awkward things to move. It is bulky rather than dense, the shape fights you, and the place it has to end up is usually a plant room, a bund or a concrete base with a wall on three sides. Tipping it off a flatbed was never going to work.
We bring it on the lorry and lift it off with the boom, so the delivery and the setting down are one job with one vehicle. Water, effluent and fuel tanks, process and brewing vessels, sectional units in pieces and silos all travel and land the same way.
We move them empty, and what has been in them is not our business. Tell us the size, the weight if you know it, where the lifting points are and what the access is like, and we will tell you how it gets in.

Tanks are the one job where a picture is worth more than a description. One photograph of the item and one of where it has to go answers most of what we would otherwise have to ask you: how it can be slung, which way up it travels, how far the boom has to reach and whether the lorry can get near enough to do it.
If it is going into a plant room or behind a building, mention that first. Lifting over a wall or a fence is routine for us, but it decides which vehicle comes and how long we book the job for.

Tank transport, answered
Will you set it into position or just deliver it?
Set it into position, where the access allows. That is the reason to use a HIAB for this work. We lift it off the bed on slings or chains, take it over whatever is in the way and lower it onto the base or the bunding while somebody guides it in.
Does it have to be empty?
Yes. We move empty tanks and vessels only. Whatever was in it needs to be dealt with by you or by a specialist before we arrive, and the vessel needs to be safe for us to sling and lift.
How do you sling a tank that has no lifting points?
Carefully, and after a look. Some have lugs, some have a frame, and some have nothing useful at all. Send us a photograph before you book. It is the quickest way for us to tell you how it will be lifted and whether it needs anything made up first.
Can you move a vessel that is wider than a normal load?
Yes, on the right trailer and with the load properly marked and routed. Wide vessels need planning rather than improvisation, so give us a few days' notice and the overall dimensions when you email.
Will you carry one outside the North West?
Regularly. Vessels tend to come from one specialist fabricator and go to a plant a long way off, so a good share of this work is long distance. We are based in Manchester and run across England, Scotland and Wales.
